Acridity

Victoria, TX's Acridity was founded in 1986. By the end of the year they solidified a still-teenaged lineup of Anthony Pedone (g), Mel Langenbert (g), Mark Cox (b), Mark Soto (d) & Darin Carroll (v). Come Feb. 1988, their four-song Countdown to Terror demo hit the street. In Dec. 1989, they laid down four new tracks for another demo, For Freedom I Cry . An exclusively-recorded track, "Whisper of Reality", was awarded to Saturn Records' 1990 compilation Voices of a Red God , where they appeared alongside other Texas greats such as deadhorse & The Morbid (i.e. Morbid Scream). At long last, 1991 came the release of the full-length version of For Freedom I Cry , released on both CD & vinyl, which was essentially a compilation of both demos & the addition of two fresh tunes thanks to the Dutch Prophecy Records. By the time the album hit the streets, however, Acridity had pretty much stalled as a thrash outfit. After exploring the notion of relocating to San Francisco, being managed by Debbie Abono (Possessed, Exodus, etc.) & taking into consideration a bit of interest from Megaforce Records, the band thought a closer locale change would be better. They landed in Austin, TX. Combined with the era's shifting musical landscape & lineup changes that included a keyboard player & hired-gun studio singer, writing became influenced by acts such as Faith No More & Mr. Bungle . Acridity morphed into a different outfit called The Gaia Foundation and by 1993 it was all over. Compilation appearance: - "Whisper of Reality" on Voices of a Red God (Saturn, 1990) - "Countdown to Terror" on Divebomb Records 2019 Label Sampler: Volume 1 ( Divebomb Records , digital, February 2019)
